Projects

Focus of the conference

The Fehmarn Link Business Conference '17 on 05th of October will focus on these two projects:

  • The Fixed Fehmarn Belt Link
  • Upgrading of the railway Ringsted-Nykøbing Falster

The Fixed Fehmarn Belt Link

The Fixed Fehmarn Belt Link will be an 18 kilometre long immersed tunnel. It will be the worlds longest of its type for both road and rail.

Friday, 4 March 2016, the Danish political parties behind the Fehmarnbelt link mandated Femern A/S to appoint the preferred bidders for the main tunnel contracts, with the aim of entering conditional contracts no later than mid-May 2016.

Conditional contracts mean that final and binding contracts will be signed with the successful contractors, but that construction work will be postponed until the German construction permit is in place. The contracts are valid until the end of 2019, with the option to renegotiate at that time.

Railway Ringsted-Nykøbing Falster 2016-2020

Banedanmark will build a railway line connecting to the future fixed link across the Fehmarn Belt, according to the treaty ratified between Denmark and Germany.

The project includes an extra track alongside the existing track between Vordingborg and the southern part of Holeby, where the line connects to the fixed link across Fehmarn Belt.

Upgrading to 200 km/h

The line will be upgraded to 200 km/ h for passenger trains, from the current 160 km/h (Ringsted-Vordingborg) and 120 km/h (Vordingborg-Rødby Havn).

Electrification and new signals

The line will be electrified all the way from Ringsted to Holeby, and in line with the rest of the Danish railways network, it will have a new signalling system, designed to ensure better punctuality and reliability.

The upgrade of the line between Ringsted and Nykøbing F Station will be completed in 2021 and the electrification in 2024.

Total cost

The total project has a budget of EUR 1,2 billion.
