The general objective is to open the coast-to-coast link across Fehmarnbelt by the end of 2018.
Preparations for the construction work are expected to take tree to four years while the subsequent construction phase is estimated to last for a further seven years. Planning, therefore, has already commenced.
Femern Bælt A/S, a subsidiary of the Danish state-owned Sund & Bælt Holding A/S, will handle the project’s day-to-day tasks until further notice.
Denmark and Germany have agreed that the coast-to-coast link across Fehmarnbelt will be planned and executed by a company that is wholly owned by the Danish State.
The future, permanent company will become operational when the Danish Parliament has ratified the Treaty with Germany and the Danish Minister of Transport has incorporated the company. This is expected to take place by the end of 2008.
