Environment

Construction and operation of an infrastructure project the size and extent of the Fehmarnbelt fixed link will inevitably have implications on the environment.

Several requirements and criteria for the planning and construction of the project will ensure that environmental impacts are avoided or mitigated to the extent possible.

It should be noted that the environmental experiences from the fixed links across the Great Belt and the Øresund in the 1990s were highly positive in that it was shown to be possible to avoid or mitigate environmental impacts.

Environmental protection has been carefully taken into consideration throughout the previous planning phases. Initial environmental investigations were conducted 1995-1999 within the framework of the feasibility studies, a number of environmental issues were investigated in more detail in 2005, followed by the environmental consultation procedure in 2006.
